By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 19 The East Zone Cricket Committee will hold a crucial meeting in Kolkata on September 3 to discuss about the zonal candidates for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) election in the AGM scheduled for next month.

According to an agency news Ranjib Biswal of Orissa, Anurag Thakur of Himachal Pradesh and Amitabh Choudhury of Jharkhand are likely to contest for the coveted secretarys post which will lie vacant after incumbent S Srinivashan becomes BCCI president.

According to the news item, Biswal is the front runner for the post but he may face some trouble as Tripura, Jharkhand, Bengal and Assam may oppose his candidature. If Thakur becomes secretary, Biswarup Dey of Bengal may become BCCI joint secretary, the agency news said.

However, present BCCI vice-president Arindam Ganguly of Orissa and Biswal himself denied the report. Today they said that everything will be decided in the September 3 meeting. Both Ganguly and Biswal have opined that the news item was based on speculation and there is no substance to the report.

Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah, when contacted said he has a desire of contesting for the BCCI joint secretarys post but he has to wait for the September 3 zonal meeting where everything will be formulated. All the States of the zone have to have same opinion while selecting candidates from this zone. So we will discuss the matter in the meeting and will project our candidates, said Baruah. He also revealed that last time Bengal had the joint secretarys post so this time Bengal has to concede this post to other State of the zone.
