DIBRUGARH, March 18 � The office of the Commandant of 171 Battalion CRPF has refuted Assam Chah Jonogustiyo Jatiyo Mahsabha and Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA) claims of lathi charge by CRPF jawans in Greenwood Dhipatoli on Teres Gowala, a local leader of tea garden community on March 11 recently, stating that it was mere altercation.
In a statement, the office of the Commandant of 171 Battalion CRPF said that on March 11, 2015 as per requisition of Chabua PS one section of A/171 Battalion was deployed for controlling the situation at Kanaigorusora Depatoli gaon under Rohmoria PS where a five years old girl reportedly died after taking iron folic acid syrup from a local ASHA worker and about 150 people had assembled there and the situation was very tense and volatile.
On arrival of Teres Gowala, the section Commander sought to interrogate him but Gowala reportedly reacted unpleasantly, using foul language and thereby obstructing the government official from performing his legal duty, the CRPF said. The CRPF further said that they accordingly lodged an FIR at Rohmoria PS against Teres Gowala.
The incident of lathi charge did not take place and it was a minor case of altercation, the CRPF said in the statement.
