Crop insurance scheme for farmers

GUWAHATI, July 23 - The HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd has been authorized by the Assam Government to implement the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) for loanee and non-loanee farmers.

The WBCIS will be implemented for kharif 2015-16 for Sali paddy, jute, black gram, green gram, ginger, turmeric and lady�s finger in Barpeta, and Sali paddy and turmeric in the Dima Hasao district of Assam by HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company.

All the products under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme are approved by the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Assam.

Sources said that the WBCIS offers insurance cover against losses of farmers due to aberrant weather conditions during the crop cycle. The claim amounts will be settled on the basis of data taken from reference weather stations mentioned in the scheme and managed by independent third-party organizations.

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Limited is a 74:26 joint venture between HDFC Limited, India�s premier Housing Finance Institution and ERGO International AG, the primary insurance entity of the Munich Re Group.
