Crisis in AGP continues

GUWAHATI, March 20 � The controversy over party presidentship of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has not died down despite its elected president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta stating that he would work as an ordinary worker of the party. The steering committee of the regional party, which is its highest policy making body, in its meeting yesterday decided to refer the issue of party president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta�s letter to party�s working president Atul Bora to the disciplinary committee of the party.

It also approved the letter written by Bora to Mahanta in reply to his (Mahanta�s) letter.

The meeting also decided to field candidates of the party in the Bodoland Territorial Council elections. It finalized the names of the party candidates for No-7 Fakiragram (General) Constituency, No-20 Mathanguri (Non-Reserved) Constituency, No-30 Goreswar (ST) Constituency, No-35 Mudiobori (Non-Reserved) and No-39 Pachnoi Serfang (General) Constituency.

Jakir Hussain has been nominated by the party for the Fakiragram Constituency, while it has nominated Aswini Barman for the Mathanguri Constituency, Bhairab Deka for the Goreswar Constituency, Apurba Kumar Deka (Morom) for the Mudoibori Constituency and Bhanu Sahu for the Pachnoi Serfang Constituency.

The AGP steering committee also decided to continue with the ongoing agitation of the party against the misrule and anti-Assam policies of the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
