Criminal case against ADGP

By The Assam Tribune

SILCHAR, Sept 24 - A criminal case has been registered against an ADGP rank officer in Assam Police on the direction of a court following a complaint filed by another IPS officer, an IGP in the same force.

The chief judicial magistrate has ordered the officer-in-charge of Silchar police station to register the case against Additional Director General R Chandranathan and another person, inquiry officer Badrul Islam.

The complaint against the two was filed by Inspector General of Police (Border) Anurag Agarwal, who is posted here.

Accordingly, Silchar police has registered a case against the two under various IPC sections, including 120B (criminal conspiracy), 166 (public servant disobeying law with intent to cause injury to a person), 195 (fabricating false evidence) and 500 (defamation).

Agarwals complaint was based on observations of the Gauhati High Court last year when it quashed the vigilance inquiry against Agarwal, as the findings of the inquiry report by Chandranathan were contrary to the record and did not disclose any sort of misconduct on Agarwals part.

Agarwal, a 1998 batch IPS officer, submitted before the Silchar CJM that he had documentary evidence and court verdicts to substantiate that Chandranathan tried to block three proposals for gallantry medal to him by giving false noting in the name of the then DGP who was unaware of it.

The CJM had passed the order on September 17. PTI
