GUWAHATI, Aug 10 - Agriculture Minister Rakibul Hussain today told the Assembly that creation of new subdivisions was under consideration of the State government even though no decision on any new subdivision had been taken till date, and that it had received a total of 55 demands for subdivisions.

Replying to a question from AGP legislator Prafulla Kumar Mahanta who wanted to know whether Kampur in Nagaon district would be granted subdivision status, Hussain said that no decision on formation of new subdivisions had been taken and that the government would first settle the issue of creation of new districts.

Hussain added that a notification on subdivision had been issued. He added that the criteria for creation of a subdivision included a population of four lakh and an area of 1,000 sq km.
