GUWAHATI, May 6 � To put a check on practice of running vehicles overloaded with passengers, the State Transport Department has asked all the district transport officers and enforcement staff to take stringent action against such vehicles by imposing fine and holding back the vehicles as per the Motor Vehicle Act.
According to a notice from the Commissioner of Transport, Assam the Office of the Transport Commissioner would not hesitate to take stringent action against erring officials responsible for allowing the overloaded vehicles to ply.
It further asked the officials to take up the mission vigorously until such types of passenger carrying vehicle drivers give-up the practice of plying their vehicles with excess passengers.
