Crackdown on Hizbul in State continues

GUWAHATI, Sept 23 - Hojai police today arrested another suspected linkman of the terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen from Karbi Anglong taking the total number of arrests to eight.

Hojai Superintendent of Police Ankur Jain informed The Assam Tribune that Abhimanyu Chouhan who is a resident of Hatikhali under Lumding police station was arrested from Mosoka under Kheroni police station in Karbi Anglong.

Chouhan was in direct contact with the already arrested operatives of the outfit. �Investigation is on,� Jain said.

The arrest , according to sources, was made based on the call details record of the accused already arrested in connection with Jamunamukh police station case number 124/2018. Initial investigation had suggested that members of the terror outfit had planned subversive activities in Lumding and a few other areas.

Qamar-uz-Zama from Kanpur by the anti-terrorism squad of Uttar Pradesh police, Hojai police, acting on intelligence inputs from its counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, launched a crackdown arresting eight persons till date.

Meanwhile, three other suspects were also picked up from different locations of Barpeta last night although they were allowed to go after preliminary investigation.

A search operation was also conducted in a residential flat in Bhetapara locality of Guwahati by Hojai police today but no recovery was made.

Top Assam Police sources divulged that search operations , based on the revelations of the already arrested accused, would continue.

�We are trying to unravel the entire network. More arrests could follow,� a senior Assam Police official stated.
