CPM tribal wing stages protest

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Feb 8 - Ahead of the election to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the Tripura Rajya Upajati Gana Mukti Parishad (TRUGMP), the CPI(M)s tribal wing, today organised a demonstration at the Vivekananda Stadium on a 19-point charter of demands including rollback of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

TRUGMP president and former MP Jitendra Chaudhury, addressing the gathering, said that a large number of supporters from every part of the State came to save the Constitution, the country and the North East from the misrule of the BJP government.

Highlighting the core demands, Chaudhury said that the TRUGMPs fight against the CAA would continue till the Act was scraped because it was detrimental to the principles enshrined in the Indian constitution.

The Narendra Modi-led Government has no concern for crores of unemployed youths. It is working to implement the RSS agenda. The BJP regime has put the countrys secular fabric at stake, he maintained.

Chaudhury also demanded that the Kokborok language should be includes in the Eightth Schedule of the Constitution and the proposal should be passed in the ongoing Budget Session of the Parliament.

Since the inception of the BJP-IPFT Government in Tripura, it has been depriving the elected TTAADC administrators. We also demand immediate release of all pending funds of the Council, he said.

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Chaudhury said that todays rally was a warning to the Government for its dismal performance in the past 23 months. The BJP misguided the people during the 2018 Assembly elections, he alleged.

Choudhury said that people living in the tribal do not have any jobs. Due to this, tribal villagers of Chowmanu and Gandacherra in Dhalai district are crossing over the international border to earn their livelihood, he alleged.

TRUGMP secretary and TTAADC chief Radhacharan Debbarma, senior leader Aghore Debbarma and Narayan Kar also addressed the gathering and criticised the anti-people steps of the BJP Governments in Delhi and Agartala.
