CPM to join nationwide strike

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Sept 9 - A day after Congresss decision to observe the 12-hour nationwide strike in Tripura, Left Front on Saturday declared that it would join the bandh protesting the sky rocketing fuel prices.

In a press release, Left Front strongly criticised the economic policy of the Narendra Modi-led government at Centre. The wrong policy adopted by BJP Government has made life miserable with fuel price scaling up with every passing day. It is also affecting price of essential commodities and people are struggling to survive, it said in a press release.

Left Front further alleged distress-like situation in farm sector is prevailing in the State while the Modi Government has waived Rs 4 lakh crore to some big people.

Left Front has decided to observe a dawn to dusk bandh in Tripura on September 10. We appeal the people to join the strike to send a strong message to the people in power, it said.

Earlier, PCC president Birajit Sinha declared to observe a 12-hour nationwide bandh in the State too. The BJP Government has brought ugly days instead of bringing acche din for the countrymen. Fuel price has reached an all-time high while rupees downfall against the dollar continues, he told the media.

Sinha urged the people to come forward to resist the anti-people steps of the Narendra Modi-led government.

However, the government has strongly opposed the bandh and asked the departmental heads to ensure smooth functioning of government offices and educational institutions. If any employee remains absent on September 10, it will be dealt with strictly, a government memorandum said here on Saturday.

The government also asked the police to maintain law and order situation during the bandh and deploy additional forces in key areas to prevent any untoward incident.
