NILAMBAZAR, Nov 6 � The State unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has hinted at the possibility of a poll alliance with either the AGP or the AIUDF. The party has, however, ruled out any alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the Congress.
At an open meeting in Karimganj on Tuesday, Ananta Deka, Rangiya MLA, said that any alliance with the BJP or the Congress is out of the question. �We will fight the 2011 elections with the objectives to defeat the corrupt Congress Government on the one hand and ensure that the BJP does not come to power on the other. In our fight to defeat the corrupt and communal forces, we would like to appeal to all like-minded parties to join hands,� he added.
Taking up the issue of �D� voters, Deka came down heavily on the State Government for failing to solve the problem. There are many people who are citizens of this country but are listed as �D� voters in the voters list. As a result, they were not able to exercise their franchise in the last elections and unless the State Government takes immediate steps to solve the problem, such people will be denied their right to vote in the ensuing Assembly elections also, he said.
Speaking out against the mega dam projects, Deka said, �Mega dams should serve multi-purpose interests like power generation and flood and erosion control. The Lower Subansiri hydel project has been taken up only for the purpose of power generation. The State Government should not agree to the construction of the dam without first addressing the apprehensions of the expert committee. The interests of the State should be placed before everything else.
The CPI(M) will stage a programme in front of DC, BDO and circle offices in all districts to protest against the alleged corruption in the State Government departments and the price hike of all essential commodities.
Speaking on the occasion, Nirmal Dey, secretary, Karimganj CPI (M) alleged that all development schemes are being executed in the district with a lot of anomalies. Former MLA Ramendra Dey, Kripesh Dasgupta and Putul Das were present in the meeting among others.
