JORHAT, July 10 Alleging botched handling of the murder mystery of CPI(ML) leader Gangaram Kol by the State police, his party colleagues demanded that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) within August 15 this year.

In a press conference on Wednesday here, several State committee members of the CPI(ML) said they will gherao the residence of Raju Sahu, the sitting Congress MLA of Chabua who has been implicated in the FIR and in whose constituency Kol was murdered, if the case is not transferred from the State police to CBI till that day.

Raju Sahu was named as one of the prime accused persons. Police showed utter negligence in the investigation and has not arrested him for killing our tea community leader, said Bibek Das, a state committee secretary of the CPI(ML).

The leaders of the leftist party said, six persons, including the Chabua MLA, were involved in the murder case and Tinsukia police has arrested only one among them in connection with the case. Police arrested Dipak Thakuria after an eye witness gave his statement before the court of chief judicial magistrate. But the other five accused are roaming freely as nothing has been done by police in their further investigation, Das said.

Staging a protest rally against the negligence and inordinate delay in the investigation, CPI(ML) workers today submitted a memorandum to the Governor though the Jorhat deputy commissioner. It also sought fulfilment of several other needs of farmers and tea garden labourers.
