CPI-M urges NF Rly to revise train timings

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 5 - The Assam State Committee of the CPI-M has expressed its deep anguish over the change of terminal, revision of timings and composition of the recently introduced 15613/15614 Guwahati- Murkongselek Intercity Express.

The revision has once again, displayed the utter insensitivity and apathetic attitude of the authorities of the Northeast Frontier Railway towards the needs of the people of upper Assam districts on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra, said the party in a statement here.

After an abnormal delay in completion of the gauge conversion project from Rangiya to Murkongselek, the Guwahati-Murkongselek Intercity Express was launched from August 10 last. But the timings of the newly introduced train were quite unrealistic and inconvenient for the train passengers, especially for the long-distance commuters.

In the face of growing public opinion and mounting protests, the NF Railway authorities decided to review and revise the time schedule, which would be effective from October 1, 2015.

But to the utter dismay of the people of the backward region, the railway authorities revised the timings quite mechanically and arbitrarily. Surprisingly, it also changed the terminal from Guwahati to Kamakhya without any rhyme or reason. In fact, daily two trains from each terminal night and day services are required between Guwahati and Murkongselek to cater to the growing needs of the passengers, the statement said.

The revised time schedule which will be effective from October 1, will in no way mitigate the problems and sufferings of the train commuters. The Assam State Committee of the CPI-M has demanded of the NF Railway authorities to review the decision and revise the new timetable for the 15613/15614 Guwahati-Murkongselek Intercity Express.
