CPI-M urges Govt to adopt humane approach

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 12 - The CPI-M Assam State Committee today urged the Government of India to adopt a humanitarian approach on the issue of atrocities on the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and to take up the issue with the Human Rights Commission of the United Nations in right earnest.

The CPI-M State committee said in a statement here that the Rohingyas are living in Myanmar for centuries and the Myanmar government has been sponsoring the incidents of attack on them.

The Rohingya Muslims became target of atrocities since the authoritarian government in Myanmar robbed these people of their citizenship rights, virtually making them aliens in Myanmar in 1982. Of late, these people have been subjected to heinous attacks on the plea of launching a counter-insurgency drive at the behest of the Myanmar government.

Hundreds of the Rohingyas have been killed while thousands of people of this community have fled to the neighbouring nations so as to escape the government-sponsored attacks on them, said the CPI-M State committee in its statement.
