CPI (M) demands probe by sitting judge of the High Court

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 - Demanding a thorough probe into the police SI exam question paper leakage scam under supervision of a sitting judge of the Gauhati High Court, the CPI (M) Assam State Committee today said that the scam has belied the Assam governments tall claims vis-a-vis corruption.

People of Assam are shocked at the magnitude of the scam and the big names involved in it. It goes without saying that the two suspects of the scam have managed to escape with the help of some higher-ups in the police and administration. Also, it wont be surprising if the names of some political bigwigs surface during the course of inquiry, State secretary of the party Deben Bhattacharya said.

Asserting that the people of Assam are not assured of impartiality of the investigation by the CID, the party has demanded that the probe be conducted under supervision of a sitting judge of the High Court. It also said that other recruitment scams under different State government departments must also be brought under the purview of that inquiry.

We believe that the same gang was involved in the recruitment scam in the panchayat and rural development department. Such large-scale anomaly is not possible without political patronage and involvement of high ranking government officials, the party said.

Holding the ruling BJP accountable for such scams, the CPI (M) also alleged that even beneficiaries of government schemes like PM Kisan and Orunodoi were being selected on the basis of their political affiliation.

Its a matter of great concern that such a huge recruitment scam has taken place in the home department, which is directly under the Chief Minister of Assam, Bhattacharya said.
