CPI, CITU offices vandalised during bandh in Tripura

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, Nov 26 - The 24-hour nationwide bandh called by 15 leading trade unions over a 10-point charter of demands evoked a lukewarm response in Tripura.

The CITUs State headquarters at Melarmath and the CPIs State headquarters here were vandalised during the bandh. Apart from this, no other untoward incident was reported from anywhere else in the State.

Though railway services were hit due to the bandh called by the Tripura Peoples Front, some shops and business establishments were allegedly forced to open by BJP cadres. The transport service, however, operated on a low scale.

Attendance in government offices and schools was normal.

Meanwhile, the CITUs State committee congratulated the people on making the bandh a grand success despite the terror tactics resorted to by the ruling party cadres. In some areas, the ruling party cadres unleashed terror to foil the bandh. At least eight bandh supporters were injured in the BJP-sponsored attacks, said Manik Dey, secretary of the State CITU committee.

On the other hand, the BJP claimed that the people of Tripura rejected the bandh called by the trade unions. The public deserves applause for rejecting the bandh called over baseless allegations against the Narendra Modi Government, said Nabendra Bhattacharjee, BJP spokesman, here.
