Covid tally reaches 2,987 in Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, Sept 16 - Covid-19 positive cases in Dhemaji district, which is maintaining a rising trend, has increased to 2,987 with 16 deaths so far, according to district administration sources on Wednesday.

The district presently has 922 active cases, while as many as 2049 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the district till date.

Dhemaji District Magistrate cum chairman of District Disaster Management Authority Narsing Pawar by an order issued on Wednesday declared office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Dhemaji as a �containment zone� as 16 medical staff working in the office have tested positive.

As per the order, unauthorized entry or exit at the notified containment zone other than medical emergencies and essential good services are restricted from September 17 morning to September 19 evening. Meanwhile, many officers, policemen, government employees and public leaders including Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu have tested coronavirus positive.

Flood scene improves: Overall flood situation in Dhemaji district has improved after the rivers started receding this afternoon, reports District Disaster Management Authority.

However, as many as 94 villages in the district are still reeling under flood water. The fourth wave of flash flood has affected over 30,000 people and submerged 2,405 hectares of cropped area in the affected villages.

The administration is supplying food and essential items among the flood-hit families.
