�Covid Sentinel� volunteers, personnel felicitated

GUWAHATI, Nov 8 - The �Covid Sentinel� project jointly executed by Assam Police and Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust concluded on October 13 and the volunteers and personnel engaged in the exercise were today felicitated at a programme organised here.

The project used a remote operational model for monitoring the home quarantine and patients in home isolation using the digital medium. Text messages, mobile application, audio-video calls, google forms and a geo-fencing app were used as tools to monitor the people remotely during the exercise, which is a brainchild of Dr Gayatri Gogoi of the Trust and Dhemaji SP Dr Dhananjay Ghanawat.

A total of 30,074 home quarantined people were monitored, 1,451 distress calls were handled and over 1,200 people got telemedicine and psychological support during the quarantine monitoring period.

Also, a total of 5,500 patients who preferred home isolation were also monitored. Volunteers regularly assessed their condition using audio and video calls and necessary help was provided. Scientific data was also collected for a better understanding of the COVID-19 infection and its spread. A plasma and oximeter donation drive was also successfully conducted, which helped many people in distress.

DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta was present at the felicitation programme today and he said the project was a great learning experience for his men.

Senior police officers who supervised the execution of the project, including CP MP Gupta, DCPs Varun Purukayastha, Nabanit Mahanta, SP Biraj Das, ADCPs Suprativ Lal Baruah, Sarmistha Barua, Ponjit Duwarah and other volunteers associated with the project were felicitated on the occasion.
