COVID screening centre in each ward from today

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 23 - From Wednesday, city dwellers will avail the facility of a COVID-19 screening centre in their respective municipal ward, where anyone can go through the test.

Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Biswajit Pegu today appealed to the public to voluntarily test themselves at these centres to contain the spread of novel coronavirus in the city.

The DC made the appeal on behalf of the State government while declaring total lockdown in 11 municipal wards.

Anyone can test themselves for the COVID-19 at these centres. But, one who gives his or her swab for the test will have to go into self-quarantine until the result is out, Pegu said.

Apart from the facilities, already, there are 12 centres that have been set up by the government for mass surveillance.

Addressing a press conference here, Pegu informed that in the past few days local COVID-19 positive cases have been surging in the city and many of these cases have no travel history. The containment zone policy has also failed in the city due to the lack of mass awareness, he added.

In Guwahati, coronavirus cases are surging in certain pockets, where we have now decided to enforce total lockdown. I appeal to all the people residing in these areas to strictly follow the lockdown norms. In case of any emergency, please dial the emergency number of the police, the health department or the district administration, Pegu said.

He stated that this time the police and the administration will not compromise in any manner in implementation of the lockdown rules and will take strict action against the violators.
