Covid scene steadily becoming alarming

JORHAT, April 12: Twenty-two persons were found COVID-19 positive in Jorhat district on Monday, thereby increasing the total number of positive cases to 12,509.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati informed on Monday evening that altogether 3,570 tests were done across the district on Monday, out of which 3,426 were RAT and rest RT-PCR.

She said that along with the existing static COVID-19 testing centres, tests were also carried out in several educational institutions and government offices and banks by mobile health department teams.

Korati informed that among the 22 positive cases found, 18 were from RAT and four from RT-PCR.

The total number of active cases in the district was 107, while the number of discharged after recovery was 12,258 in the district on Monday, the Deputy Commissioner stated. The number of Covid deaths was 72 in the district till date, Korati added.

DIBRUGARH: The district here on Monday recorded 39 fresh COVID-19 positive cases. Altogether 4346 tests (both RAT and RT-PCR) were conducted in the district on Monday.

SILCHAR: In another major escalation of COVID-19 cases, as many as 32 persons including two students from National Institute of Technology Silchar tested positive on Monday.

According to authorities at NIT Silchar, the two students do not have any record of recent travel history. “The students, who were found to be COVID-19 positive, have been isolated at the old guest house and both are under treatment. We have requested the district Health officials to facilitate tests of their contacts in the hostel at earliest. Proper sanitisation and other safety guidelines are being maintained in the institute,” said Prof AK Barbhuiya, the Director in-charge of the institute.

Meanwhile, Suman Choudhury, the District Media Expert NHM informed that out of 32, 15 were RAT positive while 17 positive cases were found through RTPCR tests.

DERGAON: With eight new positive cases, the number of Covid-19 positive cases has increased to 46 in Golaghat district on Monday.

Though the total positive cases increased to 48 but two of them have been discharged so far.

Three police personnel, including a CRPF jawan along with six civilians tested positive today.

Among the active patients, eight are being treated at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, three at Golaghat Covid Hospital and one at a private hospital in Guwahati while the other 34 are in home isolation.

DIPRO Pompi Devi, in a press release, stated that a total of 3131 Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) and 84 RTPCR tests were conducted on Monday where eight persons were found positive. Among the positive persons, one was found at PTC Dergaon, one from CRPF camp, Jonaki Nagar, one at Bokakhat police station, two at Rangamatty, one each at Arengapar, Ghiladhari and Dergaon town. The release also stated that a total of 14,433 tests were conducted from April 1.

Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Bibhash Chandra Modi has urged all the residents of the district to wear face masks in public places and abide by the Covid-19 protocol strictly.

GAURIPUR: After testing 113 individuals at the COVID-19 testing centre attached in the Gauripur Community Health Centre, one Anil Kumar (35), a BSF jawan of the Panbari BSF camp, was found COVID-19 positive on Monday. He was returning from Uttar Pradesh after expiry of his leave. He was sent to home quarantine. So far, three persons were found positive during the period of outbreak of the second wave of coronavirus pandemic.

A Correspondent from Nagaon adds: Another 29 persons tested COVID-19 positive in the district on Monday, taking the total number of positive cases in the district to 102.

Among the 29 fresh positive cases, four were immediately hospitalised, while the rest were sent to home quarantine, sources added.

Significantly, one positive patient recovered from the virus, while other 27 positive people are still under home quarantine till filing of this report.
