Covid patients deliver healthy babies in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, July 25 - Amid the battle against COVID-19 in Kokrajhar district, a ray of hope brought smiles to everyone as two pregnant COVID-19 positive patients in Rup Nath Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar gave birth to two healthy babies through Caesarean section. Both the babies were found negative for the virus and are in good health.

A medical team of RNB Civil Hospital Kokrajhar comprising Dr RK Boro, Dr MN Brahma, Dr AS Sarma assisted by Urmila Brahma, Rina Brahma, Pradip Narzary, Ashok Basfor and Rajendra Basfor on Friday successfully conducted Caesarean on the two pregnant women who were infected with the virus, Kokrajhar Health official sources said.

They are the first coronavirus-infected women who gave birth to babies, a girl and a boy in Kokrajhar district, sources said. Both the pregnant women, 32-year-old Runjun Mahanta and 22-year-old Kankana Barman of Titaguri Batabari and Kashibari villages of Kokrajhar district were initially admitted in the hospital a few days back and were found COVID-19 positive in rapid antigen test. The mothers and the new-born are stated to be in good condition.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar Bhaskar Phukan and people of Kokrajhar congratulated the team of doctors of RNB Civil Hospital Kokrajhar for the success.
