DIBRUGARH, July 31 - The Super Speciality Plastic Surgery Department of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) here achieved a rare feat by treating a Covid-19 patient with approximately 45% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) second degree deep flame burn. The patient who has almost recovered from the burn injury, has tested negative for coronavirus now and is about to be discharged.
Commenting on the accomplishment, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma immediately lauded the medical team of the Department of Plastic Surgery through a tweet: �It was not an easy task. But you have accomplished it with sincerity and dedication. Happy to be a Minister in the Health department when our team is writing a golden history by serving humanity�.
The patient, hailing from Teok, had sustained severe (45%) burns on July 20 and was admitted to Jorhat Medical College. He was referred to AMCH from Jorhat Medical College after undergoing the Covid-19 test. He was admitted to AMCH at 9 pm on July 21.
Since he had tested positive for coronavirus, a separate isolation room with all required facilities was arranged in the burn unit of the Plastic Surgery department as an ICU unit is not attached with the department. The patient was constantly under the observation from July 22 and was administered all the necessary treatment. He tested negative for coronavirus yesterday and has almost recovered now, according to Dr Ajanta Hazarika, the Additional Superintendent of AMC.
