Covid claims two more lives in Tinsukia district

DOOMDOOMA, Aug 1 - With the death of two more COVID-19 patients in Tinsukia district during the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths due to the virus jumped to 14 in the district on Saturday.

One 60-year-old Bhindeshwari Prasad from Parbotia area of Tinsukia town, who tested positive for the COVID-19, died at AMCH, Dibrugarh, on Friday. Another 62-year-old Bidya Devi, who was suffering from the virus infection, also died at AMCH, Dibrugarh, on Saturday. She was from Sripuria area of Tinsukia town.

Meanwhile, 157 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in Tinsukia district during the last 24 hours, raising the number of infected persons to 1627 in the district till the filing of this report.

Most of these cases were detected in the community and from Tinsukia town area. As many as 43 CRPF personnel stationed at Raidang Tea Estate here and two police personnel from Doomdooma PS here also tested positive for the virus. According to the district Covid bulletin issued on Friday, 1,013 patients were released from hospitals.

Interestingly, the COVID positive patient who fled from the COVID Care Centre was found from the Chirwapatty area of Tinsukia town in the wee hours of Friday. He was taken to the hospital again. Police registered a case against him and he will be arrested as soon as he is cured.

It can be mentioned here that the Covid patient Chittaranjan Prasad, a truck driver by profession, fled from the COVID Care Centre set up at SAI Complex of Borguri in Tinsukia town on July 29 through the window of the toilet.
