COVID claims another life in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 13 - With the death of an 86-year-old man, the COVID-19 toll in Manipur rose to 46 on Sunday, officials said.

In the past 24 hours, 133 persons, including 25 women and 11 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, tested positive for COVID-19, said Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and spokesperson of the State Health Department in a press release issued on Sunday.

The positive cases were detected at the virus research and diagnosis laboratories of the RIMS, JNIMS and other testing centres, Dr Sasheekumar said.

The new patients are from Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts.

Sixteen civilians are returnees from other States and the rest 117 are local residents without any significant travel history, the release stated. They are being shifted to the COVID care facilities. All necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are being done.

�In the last 24 hours, one man, aged 86 years, from Churachandpur expired at RIMS. The cumulative number of deaths due to COVID-19 is now 46 in Manipur,� it added.

In the past 24 hours, 89 persons were discharged from six COVID care facilities in the State.

The total number of positive cases in Manipur had reached 7,875, including 1,812 CAPF personnel, while the cumulative number of discharged cases was 6,191, the release stated. The number of active cases was 1,638, including 300 CAPF personnel, and the recovery rate in the State was 78.61 percent, it added.

Meanwhile sharing the 24X7 healthcare helpline numbers, the release asked people to consult the government doctors through online telecommunication from home between 10 am to 3 pm every day, except Sunday, by downloading eSanjeevaniOPD app either from Google Play Store or www.esanjeevaniopd.in.

As of Sunday, 3,61,896 persons were screened at various entry points to the State, while 1,90,914 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres, official sources said.
