Covid cases increasing rapidly across State

DIBRUGARH, April 8: Twenty-one fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported from Dibrugarh district on Thursday. Altogether, 2,097 tests were conducted on Thursday, out of which 21 samples reported positive till 5.30 pm.

JORHAT: Ten persons were found COVID-19 positive on Thursday in Jorhat district thereby increasing the total number of positive cases to 12,443 in the district.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati informed this evening that the 10 positive were two persons of the CKB Commerce College, Jorhat. A source told this newspaper that the two positive cases were students.

Korati stated that testing was also carried out in Jorhat College, Jorhat Law College, Bahona College and Kakojan College where no positive cases were found.

Altogether tests were done on over 1400 people today at the existing static testing centres across the district and through mobile testing done at the educational institutions.

She said that the number of active cases was 53 and the number of cases discharged was 12247 as on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner stated that deaths due to COVID-19 was 71 in the district till date.

SILCHAR: In a major development, Dr Arunabha Choudhury, superintendent of the Karimganj Civil Hospital, tested Covid-19 positive on Thursday.

Sources said that Dr Choudhury had taken the second dose of the Covid vaccine around a month ago.

Dr AK Daityari, Joint Director of Health Services, Karimganj, said that both of the them had taken the two dozes of the vaccine together. “Unfortunately, Dr Choudhury, who has no travel history, was found to be affected by the virus. However, he is keeping well and has opted for home isolation,” Dr Daityari said.

The Joint Director of Health Services urged people to wear masks in public places and maintain distance and follow other safety norms to keep the virus at bay.

DERGAON: With six new positive cases, the number of Covid-19 positive cases has risen to 19 in Golaghat district as on Thursday.

Three tourists, who had come to Kaziranga, tested positive while two in Dergaon and one at Betioni were found Covid-infected.

Among the active patients, six are being treated at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and one at a private hospital in Guwahati while the other 12 are in home isolation.

DIPRO Pompi Devi, in a press release, stated that a total of 905 Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) and 29 RTPCR tests were conducted on Thursday in which six persons were found positive. Among them, three had come to Kaziranga and one local within Assam while the other two had come in contact with infected persons.

Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Bibhash Chandra Modi urged all the residents of the district to wear face masks in public places and to strictly abide by Covid-19 protocol.

HAILAKANDI: Four Covid-19 infected persons have been discharged from SK Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi after being cured here on Thursday.

The district currently has two active Covid-19 cases while 3,354 patients have recovered from the disease.

The Covid-19 death toll in the district is nine.

The district has so far tested 1,60,762 samples including 468 samples during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the district administration has informed that the rate for RTPCR test for Covid-19 collected at NABL and ICMR approved laboratories and hospitals has been fixed at Rs 500 only and those collected at home would be Rs 700. Tariff for Rapid Antigen Test is Rs 250 only.

The administration has asked the hospitals and labs to display the revised tariffs prominently and ensure strict compliance of the order. Non-compliance will attract strict action as per provisions of the law, the order warned.

The officials of the administration and the Health department will closely monitor and enforce the rates strictly.

The Covid vaccination drive is going on in hospitals across the district.

So far, 21,885 persons have received the first shot of the vaccine while 4,576 received the final dose as on Wednesday.

DHUBRI: One person tested positive for Covid-19 in Dhubri district on Thursday. The patient from ward no.11 of Dhubri town who had recently returned from Kolkata was found positive, and has been permitted home isolation by the medical officer of Uban PHC, Dhubri.

GAURIPUR: Saidur Rahman (76), a retired teacher of Ward no.1 in Gauripur town, was found Covid-19 positive on Wednesday and is undergoing treatment at GMCH.

Meanwhile, Abhilash Pandey (37), a BSF jawan from the Panbari BSF camp, was also found Covid-19 positive at the testing centre of Gauripur CHC on Thursday. Pandey was sent to home isolation.

A Correspondent adds from NAGAON: Within a week, the number of Covid positive cases has been increasing in the district.

As per official statistics, more than 28 Covid positive cases have been recorded within the last five days, out of which 12 tested positive on Tuesday and four on Wednesday while five persons, including a three-year-old child, tested positive today.

Significantly, one elderly businessman of the town died of COVID-19 this morning while he was undergoing treatment in Guwahati after being infected by the virus.

According to sources, the deceased businessman has been identified as Megraj Kothari (78) of Haiborgaon bazaar in the town.
