Covid cases increasing in Bongaigaon

BONGAIGAON, July 24 - With new 32 covid-19 positive cases detected within the last 24-hour, Bongaigaon district has recorded a total of 374 cases as of today amid prevailing restrictions and two-day weekly lockdown to fight the pandemic.

Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya has kept herself in isolation at Bongaigaon Circuit House after her vehicle driver tested positive last night.

Meanwhile, two home guards posted at the residence of Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Subodh Kumar Sonowal, four police jawans of his escort, his two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) and one member of a police guard posted at his residence, have tested corona positive today. After total 9 police staff were found covid-19 positive, all the other staff who had come into their contact have been asked to go for corona test.

Since the bank authority of the town did not follow covid-19 protocol in their ATMs, the Deputy Commissioner had ordered some of the banks to keep their ATMs closed from today to check the spread of the virus.

Total 117 containment zones have been declared in the district with strict restriction of entry and exit of the people.

The main market of the town, Paglasthan, has been closed from July 4 after it was declared a containment zone. But in this containment zone, cases of theft were reported by the shopowners.

At an isolation centre at New Bongaigaon Railway Hospital, New Bongaigaon here, covid patients today staged a hunger strike protesting delayed supply of meals and negligence of the administration. Some of the inmates have posted videograph of dirty toilets, dump of wastes and irregular cleaning of the centre in some mobile phones to attract the attention of the administration.
