COVID-19 positive case detected from Cachar, Assam tally rises to 26

SILCHAR, April 5 - Amidst escalating COVID-19 positive cases in the state, another person has been found to be positive from Barak Valley.

Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed in his tweet on Saturday at 11:15pm that the patient case is from Cachar district and related to the Nizamuddin Markaz in New Delhi, taking the total number in Assam to 26.

According to sources at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, the patient is undergoing treatment at the hospital. It may be mentioned that this is the first positive case from Cachar district, the earlier positive case detected belonged to Karimganj district.

Meanwhile, following the detection of the COVID-19 positive case, Cachar Deputy Commissioner has issued an order to seal the area surrounding the residence of the patient as a containment measure.

As per the order made under Regulations of The Assam COVID-19 Regulations 2020 with effect from 1 am of April 5, no entry and exit of the residents of the area to the patient�s residence would be allowed.

Also, vehicular movement has been strictly prohibited together with enforcement of all directions regarding social distancing.
