GUWAHATI, July 26 - Two more COVID-19 patients succumbed to their infection at the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh district today. With this, the total number of COVID-19 induced deaths in the State has gone up to 79. The deceased are Baisakhi Roy (53) of Tinsukia and Birendra Shah (50).
Meanwhile, 1,142 new positive cases were detected in the State, including 171 in Guwahati, 188 in Kamrup and 100 in Darrang, following tests on 20,542 samples during the last 24 hours. The State positivity rate has been put at 5.5 per cent.
Significantly, Kamrup (Metro) continues to record a higher positivity rate (rapid antigen tests). It recorded a positivity of 13.34 per cent till Saturday. As of July 25, 73,692 rapid antigen tests were done in the State, of which 6,924 were found positive. Similarly, in Kamrup (Metro), of the 30,140 tests done, 4,021 persons tested positive.
On July 25, 353 fresh infections were reported from Guwahati, taking the total tally of infection in the capital city to 13,321 of which 5,768 are still active. Of the total deaths reported in the State, 37 are from Guwahati.
Meanwhile, Health Department sources said that more and more recovered COVID-19 patients are volunteering for plasma donation.
As many as 32,228 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the State so far, of which 23,055 have already recovered.
