By A Correspondent

GANGTOK, Aug 19 - A 57-year-old man from Pelling has died due to COVID-19. He was admitted to the STNM Hospital for treatment of other ailments, but had tested positive in an RT-PCR test. This is the third virus death in the tiny State.

Meanwhile, one Jagat Bahadur Chettri (40) of Turuk in West Sikkim died at the Central Referral Hospital on Tuesday. His daughter, Ashika Chettri, alleged that despite repeated requests to doctors and staff to enter the emergency ward, her father was kept waiting. There is no official response from the hospital.

This has triggered an outpouring of angry responses in the social media. The public have called for strict action against the hospital. The hospital authorities have said that they would form a committee to look into the matter.
