COVID-19 claims another life in Manipur

IMPHAL, Aug 29 - The COVID-19 death toll in Manipur reached 28 with one more person succumbing to the disease today.

The overall COVID-19 tally in the State also rose to 5,960 today, State Health Department officials said.

�In the last 24 hours, one male, aged 78 years, from Imphal East passed away at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal,� said Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and spokesperson of the Health Department in a press release. �The cumulative number of deaths is 28,� the release added.

The State reported its first death due to COVID-19 on July 29 and the first COVID-19 case on March 24.

Informing that 87 civilians and 30 Central Armed Police Force personnel were tested positive in the past 24 hours in the State, Dr Sasheekumar said that they are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Noney, Bishnupur, Chandel and Churachandpur.

Four civilians are returnees from other States, while the remaining 83 are without any travel history. They are being shifted to COVID care facilities, the release said.

In the past 24 hours, 129 persons were also discharged from eight COVID care facilities in the State, it stated.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 5,960 while the cumulative number of recovered cases now stands at 4,186. The number of active cases is 1,746 and the recovery rate is 70.23 per cent.

As of today, a total of 3,43,335 persons have been screened at various entry points to the State, while 1,49,155 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres, official sources said.
