COVID-19 cases rise to 1,190 in Tripura

AGARTALA, June 21 - The novel coronavirus infections have been scaling up in Tripura with eight new positive cases detected last night, taking the total number of active cases in the State to 504.

�Out of 1357 samples tested for COVID-19, eight people were found positive. All of them have travel history,� Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Of these eight persons, three each are from West Tripura and Sepahijala districts and one each from Gomati and Dhalai districts.

Till date 3,27,815 persons were screened and 55,260 swab samples collected in the State. Of 53,989 samples tested so far, the test results of 1,190 returned positive.

�The overall COVID-19 situation in the State is under control with 2.19 percent positivity rate. Testing has been intensified and in some cases tests are conducted even twice. While 4,305 tests are being conducted per million population in the State, the national average stands at 13,483,� said Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
