COVID-19 cases jump to 385 in Manipur

IMPHAL, June 12 - The total number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 in Manipur has increased to 385, while the number of active cases stands at 308, official sources said.

According to a press release, 19 persons were confirmed as COVID-19 positive at the VRDLs of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences last night. They will be shifted to the COVID care facilities here.

Meanwhile, with the increase of COVID-19 positive cases in the last few days, a private school in Imphal West district has been converted into a COVID care centre, official sources stated.

�The newly established COVID care centre at Meitram, Imphal West district, has become functional and started admitting COVID-19 positive asymptomatic cases,� stated a Manipur Health Department press release today. �The present capacity is 100 beds. The capacity will be increased in the future if required,� it added.

Ever since the first COVID-19 positive case of Manipur was reported in March this year, the RIMS and the JNIMS have been conducting necessary tests and providing treatment to the patients.

As on June 12, around 22,202 persons have been tested for COVID-19 in the State. As many as 2,65,336 people were screened at various centres opened at the entry points to Manipur. A total of 20,658 persons were quarantined, out of whom 18,204 have already completed their quarantine periods.
