COVID-19 cases in State rise to 32

GUWAHATI, April 15 - Even as the total COVID-19 positive cases reached 32 in the last 48 hours, two patients were this evening released after they were declared coronavirus-free by doctors. The two cured patients - Junab Ali (46) and Nuruddin Ali (55) � belong to Jagiroad.

They were being treated at the Sonapur Civil Hospital � one of the three COVID-19 hospitals in the city.

�However, they will have to be in home quarantine for another fourteen days as per the protocol. They will be housed at the Jagiroad Paper Mill guest house during the period, but their family members can visit them,� Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Two tests were conducted on the duo on April 13 and 14, and on both occasions the results were COVID-19 negative. However, another patient at Sonapur Civil Hospital, Hazrat Ali, who had tested negative on April 13, was positive again on April 14. He will continue to be under treatment.

The Health Minister hoped that three more patients currently under treatment at Goalpara are also likely to be released tomorrow. "We hope to release most of the patients by April 20," Sarma said.

Two COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Assam yesterday. The first case of COVID-19 was detected in Goalpara - the fourth in the district. The patient was part of a group which participated in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation.

Dhubri also reported the fourth case later in the day when a women tested positive. She is the wife of a COVID-19 positive person who is connected with both Nizamuddin Markaz and the congregation at Guwahati Kabarsthan Masjid, Aathgaon.

The woman, Rashida Khatun (28) has been shifted to MMCH where her husband is also admitted. Fortunately, their three kids have tested negative for the novel coronavirus.

Except one, rest 31 cases of the State are linked to Nizamuddin area in Delhi. One COVID-19 positive patient has died in the State so far.
