COVID-19 cases in State reach 3,963

GUWAHATI, June 14 - Guwahati today recorded the highest single day spike in COVID-19 infection with around 20 positive cases detected in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the capital city to 192.

Overall, the State today recorded at least 63 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count to 3,963. A total of 14 positive cases were reported from Nagaon, 10 from Golaghat, 10 from Kamrup, two from Jorhat and one each from Dhemaji and Bongaigaon.

While the number of patients who have recovered stands at around 1,805, the total number of active cases is 2,190. The total number of death is eight.

Most of the cases detected in Guwahati today were from an already declared containment zone located in the Sarabbhatti area. The Kamrup Metro district administration has declared 20 more areas of Guwahati as containment zones, taking the total number of such zones in the city to 61.

The latest containment zones in the city are Games Village, Hengrabari, Sorumotoria, Garo Basti, SBI Guest House (Sorumotoria), Nabajyoti Nagar, Panjabari, Zoo Tiniali, Ahom Gaon, BP Chaliha Nagar (Bamunmaidam), Akashi Nagar (Bamunimaidam), Sagar Apartment (Athgaon), Loco Colony (Pandu), Joymoti Nagar (Pandu), Narayan Nagar (Bharalumukh), and Boripara (Maligaon).

Several other localities in Ulubari, Paltanbazar, Srimantapur in Bhangagarh, Solapara and Udaipur in Birubari have also been declared as containment zones.

Earlier, the Kamrup Metro district administration withdrew the containment zone tag from the Borbari area and Ajan Peer Path of Japorigog since no new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported. Similarly, the containment zone tag of the entire area of Guwahati Central Jail has been lifted, barring the Skill Development Training Centre building of the jail.
