COVID-19 cases in Arunachal mount to 99

ITANAGAR, June 17 - The COVID-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh have risen to 99 as four more returnees from other parts of the country tested positive today, State�s COVID-19 Nodal Officer Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Three of the four cases were reported from the worst-hit Changlang district. The persons had returned from Delhi, while one COVID-19 positive person belonging to the Itanagar Capital Region, had arrived from Kolkata, Dr Jampa added.

He said that all the four new cases were detected in the quarantine centres and they all are asymptomatic. The patients have been shifted to the designated COVID Care Centres, Dr Jampa added.

As of now, the State has 92 active cases. Seven patients have already recovered. Changlang district in east Arunachal Pradesh tops the list of virus infections with 60 cases, followed by the Itanagar Capital Region (11) and East Siang (nine).

Meanwhile, the Lower Dibang Valley district administration has imposed curfew in the district, which will remain in force till the midnight of June 18, as a precautionary measure after an employee of the DMO�s office, Roing, tested positive for COVID-19 at Jorhat in Assam.

Doctors and medical staff of the DMO�s office have been put under home quarantine and their samples for RT-PCR tests, which were collected on Tuesday, tested negative at the Regional Medical Research Centre-ICMR, Dibrugarh, official sources said.

�The negative results have come as a relief, but this is a wake-up call for all of us to be more careful,� stated Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom. She added that the district administration and the Health Department are taking all necessary measures to contain the spread of the disease in the district.
