Court rejects Akhils bail petitions

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 25 The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Guwahati), today rejected the bail petitions filed by the counsels of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity leader Akhil Gogoi.

The KMSS president was today produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Guwahati) in connection with three cases, including two non-bailable offences registered with the Khetri Police Station under the Assam Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act, 2010.

The other case was registered with the Bharalumukh Police Station under Section 353 of the IPC.

As the cases registered with the Khetri Police Station are to be tried before the District and Sessions Judge, Guwahati, the Court sent Gogoi to judicial remand till March 27, the date fixed for his production.

In the Bharalumukh Police Station case, the Court allowed shown arrest of Gogoi and remanded him to judicial custody till April 4.

Meanwhile, considering the spinal cord ailment Akhil Gogoi is suffering from, the Court directed the jail authority to ensure proper treatment, and if necessary, to shift him to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Advocate Bijon Mahajan and his associates are likely to move the bail applications with the Gauhati High Court tomorrow. Akhil Gogoi, who was first arrested on March 2 in connection with the Pranab Boro self-immolation case, has so far secured bail in seven cases, all registered with the Dispur Police Station.
