Court gives rigorous punishment to convict

MANGALDAI, Aug 18 - In a significant judgement relating to violence against women, the court of District and Session Judge cum Special Judge on Tuesday sentenced five years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 and also sentenced rigorous imprisonment of nine years and fine of Rs 25,000 concurrently to one Nur Mohammad, s/o Jurul Sheikh of village Gorapori Nipshikheraj under Dhula Police Station after convicting him in the case of kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl on May 16, 2014.

The court order also read another six months rigorous imprisonment in default to pay the fine of Rs 10,000 and rigorous imprisonment of additional one year in default of making payment of the fine for Rs 25,000 which will also run concurrently. The fine amount realised shall be paid to the victim girl, the court observed in its verdict.

Earlier, Dhula PS had registered a case (no. 198/14 U/S 366 (A) IPC) against the accused on the basis of an FIR lodged by the father of the victim and a resident of Dhula, Abdul Ajij stating that his daughter, a student of Dhula Balika ME School, was kidnapped and subsequently sexually assaulted by the accused on her way to school.
