GUWAHATI, Jan 13 - The Gauhati High Court after hearing an application filed by the Animal Welfare Board of India has passed an order banning the traditional bulbuli bird fight at the Hajo Hayagriva Madhab Mandir.
A vacation bench of the High Court yesterday modified the earlier order passed on December 22 last whereby the ban on bulbuli fight imposed by the district administration was kept in abeyance.
The High Court passed the order yesterday after considering various provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, imposing restrictions on bulbuli fight and fixed the case for hearing on January 20.
