BARPETA, Oct 4 - Sensation prevails at Sarthebari following the death of an entire family this evening.
According to reports available, Pabin Barman ((55) and Suparna Devi (48) hanged themselves from separate ceiling fans after poisoning their two sons, Jitikesh and Abhilekh. The incident came to light around 7.30 pm today.
The family of Barman, a permanent resident of Sarthebari Bapuji Nagar, had been living in a rented house at the Natun Bazar area in the heart of the town since the last few years.
Their economic condition is stated to be the cause behind the incident. Though Barman was a businessman, he had abandoned his business a few years back and reportedly suffered from acute financial hardship.
Barman was a local leader of the ruling Congress who remained devoted to the party. He was actively associated with several organisations, including Assam Cooperative Bell Metal Association and Sarthebari Mahkuma Dabi Samiti.
