Country will suffer if Modi comes to power: Yechury

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, April 13 - CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has predicted there would be an alternative government in Delhi after the Lok Sabha elections and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be sent back to his home State Gujarat.

Parliamentary election is not an ordinary one this time because whether India will remain as a secular country or not will be decided in the ongoing battle of ballots, he said while addressing an election rally at Kailashahar in Unakoti district on Friday.

In the past five years, the country witnessed intolerance in all fields agriculture, culture and more importantly secular fabric of the Indian constitution came under attack, he said, adding that attempts were made to influence autonomous bodies like CBI and PAC.

Dubbing Modi as an ally to corporate world, the CPM leader recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modis promise of creating two crore jobs each year. Where has the jobs gone? The people, who had been employed in different sectors have lost their jobs in the Modi regime. The condition of the middle class and lower middle class has worsened, he alleged.

Lashing out at Modi, Yechury said Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya were given safe passage with thousands of crores of rupees to leave the country. Everybody knows why Narendra Modi is active to bring back fugitives. It is all about election agenda. But the people will give a massive mandate against the Prime Minister, he asserted.

In his speech, Yechury also called upon the people to vote for Left Front candidate Jitendra Chowdhury as he performed well in the Parliament as a MP. He said if Modi gets another term then the country and its people will suffer badly but did not clarify who was the alternative to the ruling BJP.

Left Front convener Bijan Dhar, MLAs Tapan Chakraborty and Mabashar Ali also addressed the rally.
