DIBRUGARH, Jan 29 - In a major crackdown, a court appointed local commissioner, two advocates of Care Intellect LLP � a Delhi-based law firm, along with a team of five investigators and supporting staff, besides the local police raided the business establishments of Goenka Electricals in RKB Path and Engineering Chamber in HS Road here and reportedly seized a huge quantity of fake and counterfeit electrical goods.
The seizure was made following a civil suit listed before the court of Vineeta Goyal, Additional District Judge, Patiala House, New Delhi. The suit was filed by electrical and electronic products and systems leader Larsen & Toubro Limited, L&T House, Ballard Estate, Mumbai.
The court by an order had injuncted the defendants and had also appointed a local commissioner to seize the infringed L&T, LT and LT LK counterfeit products from the two electrical shops and their godowns.
Following the court order, the local commissioner, advocate Girish Chaudhary and his team along with local police raided the premises of the two alleged counterfeiters last night. The local commissioner prepared the inventory report of the goods and later had them sealed.
The seized electrical goods are worth several lakhs of rupees, according to Care Intellect LLP, the law firm, which is acting as an advocate for Larsen & Toubro Limited.
It has been learnt that some Chennai-based business firms are involved in selling counterfeit L&T electrical products. As it is a well known fact that counterfeit electrical products pose a major safety hazard at workplaces, industries and other places, such substandard equipment may sometimes lead to critical failure of installations, causing fire, thereby endangering the properties and lives of consumers.
�Counterfeit products also have broader ramifications. The government incurs revenue loss through nonpayment of product development/safety compliance costs, proper wages, tax, VAT, etc., and legitimate manufacturers suffer a big jolt to their brand name, besides financial loss through duplicates, despite bearing the burden of innovation by investing in research and development,� advocates of Care Intellect LLP stated.
