Cotton varsitys Xondhan clarifies on fund raising

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, June 17 - Xondhan, the socio-economic educational group of Cotton University, has clarified that the group has been carrying out several campaigns for the last five years using the logo of Cotton University, including the fund-raising campaign for the people of Baghjan.

The clarification came after the Registrar of the university Diganta Kumar Das said on Monday that the university is not associated with the fund-raising campaign being carried out by Xondhan and Kalyan for the people of Baghjan.

It is an officially recognised student body of Cotton students set up by the erstwhile Cotton College authority and we are carrying out different socio-educational activities from the very beginning using the logo of the institution. There are 500 students of the university associated with it, said Jintu Thakuria, president of Xondhan.

Earlier, Xondhan had initiated many fund-raising drives for flood victims and for other crises too using the logo of the institution. Moreover, some other student groups of CU are also using the logo for such activities. But the authority never prohibited the use of the institutions logo in such activities. If there are any such rules or bindings on the use of the logo of Cotton University, the authority should have told the group. Otherwise, it has created unwarranted confusion among the student fraternity, Jintu added.

Xondhan also clarified that Kalyan, a Digboi-based NGO, is jointly working for Baghjan fire victims with Xondhan and the NGO is using its own logo.
