Cotton to host international geography seminar

GUWAHATI, July 8 � The Cotton College would host an International Geographical Union Commission Seminar in December 2010, which would be organized by Department of Geography of the college.

The central theme of the seminar is �Land use, biodiversity and climate change� as the year 2010 has been declared as World Biodiversity Year. The sub-themes adopted for discussions are population and land use, changing human values and impact on environment, integrated river basin development, developmental change and human health, biodiversity and Himalayas, land use change and wetlands, man-animal conflicts, urban development and land use change, changing land use and climate change, sustainable practices in a globalised world, geo-informatics in land use and climate change.

According to a statement, it is for the first time that an International Geographical Union seminar is being held in this part of the country. Meanwhile, 19 experts from 12 countries including Japan, Italy, Sweden, Germany, UK, Finland, Thailand, and Malaysia have confirmed their participation in the seminar.

An 18-member organizing committee has been formed for conducting the seminar smoothly with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as chief patron.
