GUWAHATI, Nov 15 - With the A++ grade to Cotton College with a CGPA of 3.76 in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) assessment, the students want upgraded infrastructure for the college along with facilities at par with the other leading educational institutions of the country, to fetch top position in the country during next assessment.
Addressing the media here, the Cotton College Union Society (CCUS) members stated that it was a proud moment for the Cotton College as well as the people of the entire State that the premium educational institution of the State has acquired third position in the NAAC assessment at the national level.
The CCUS general secretary Jintu Thakuria, while addressing the media here, stated that while the college has brought glory to the State, it is unfortunate that Cotton College still does not have a playground of their own or even digitized classrooms a must for modern-day learning.
Not just that, our college even does not have sufficient classrooms and students common room. Though our 60 per cent students are girls, we do not have sufficient girls hostels. Most of the girl students of the college stay in private hostels. Many students also have to leave Cotton College due to non-availability of seats in the hostels," he stated.
In the NAAC assessment, the Government Mahindra College of Punjab had scored the highest CGPA of 3.86 nationwide, followed by Hans Raj Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Punjab, with CGPA 3.83. Cotton College shared the third position at the national level with three other colleges of the country.
In the last assessment, the college was on the 26th position and being among the top three is definitely a major success. Each and every member of the Cotton College family including the teachers, students and staff, has his or her contribution in this achievement of the college. However, as we would try to get the top position in the next NAAC assessment, we need some support, said Surajit Dutta, president of the CCUS. The students union also demanded bus service for the college and rebate in electricity bills.
