GUWAHATI, June 19 - The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved inclusion of the Cotton University in the list of universities under Section 12B of the UGC Act, 1956, enabling the new university to avail financial assistance under the UGC.
The approval by the statutory body came at its meeting held on June 7.
�This will enable research fellows to receive scholarships from UGC, faculty members to receive research grants, support for attending workshops, seminars, refresher courses, etc., travel support for both national and international meetings, and for the university to receive grants for overall improvement of infrastructure and facilities,� said Dhruba J Saikia, Vice Chancellor (in-charge) of the Cotton University in a statement.
This recognition by the UGC will open up a new and important avenue for getting research grants in all disciplines.
