Cotton College celebrates 116th foundation day

GUWAHATI, May 27 - Cotton College celebrated its 116th foundation day at its Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha (KBR) Auditorium here today.

Dr Arup Kumar Misra, Director, Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC), while delivering the foundation day lecture, said that an educational institution should not be solely judged by its academic credentials, but also by its contribution and impact on the society at large.

He also emphasised that everyone engaged in the field of teaching should be proud of what they do and should exude power motivation. Dr Misra further laid stress on the importance of skill and entrepreneurship development for the benefit of the student community.

Sahitya Akademi Award (translation) winner and former head, Department of Geography, Cotton College, Suren Talukdar, Sahitya Akademi Award winner and eminent writer and poet Kuladhar Saikia and award-winning filmmaker Dip Bhuyan were felicitated on the occasion.

PK Borthakur, Principal Secretary, Education Department, attended the function as the chief guest, while the guest of honour was Dr Dhrubajyoti Saikia, Vice Chancellor, Cotton College State University.

Dr Nirada Devi, principal, Cotton College, was also present during the foundation day celebration.

Three former students of Cotton College were also honoured for their remarkable achievements in different walks of life. Former students of the college � Barun Purkayastha, Subhrajyoti Bora and Mamoni Doley � were also felicitated for clearing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Another highlight of the programme was the formal release of the annual college newsletter, Events.

State position holders of the college in the arts and science streams of the Higher Secondary examination, 2015 and student achievers in the field of sports were also felicitated on the occasion.
