Coronavirus awareness programme held at Sonapur College

JORABAT, March 12 - An awareness programme on coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak was held today at Sonapur College under the aegis of the IQAC of the college.

Dr Snigdha Chetia, CMO Commandant (Medical), CRPF, 128 Battalion, Guwahati who has the experience of serving as a medical officer in the United Nations Peace Keeping Mission (UNMIL) in African country Liberia where ebola (virus disease) had caused havoc, lucidly explained the origin and diffusion pattern of Covid-19, as well as its symptoms and precautionary measures.

Dr Chetia said although coronavirus has affected more than 1.26 lakh people and claimed over 4,600 lives all over the world so far, there are over 68 thousand people who have recovered from the disease. Therefore, there is no need to panic and the only way to beat the menace is precaution, she said. Dr Chetia said that cleaning the hands frequently, using hand sanitiser and wearing masks should be of top priority to stave off the disease.

The programme was anchored by Shapna Medhi, Assistant Professor of the college�s travel and tourism management department.

In his inaugural speech, Dr Devabrot Khanikor, Principal of the college, said that the outbreak of Covid-19 has not only created a health hazard, its impact is quite large in the global economic scenario also.

Later, Dr Chetia participated in an active interactive session with the students where she cleared many doubts raised by the students. The session ended with a summarisation and vote of thanks by Dr Mridusmita Mahanta, Associate Professor, Department of English.
