Corona, rains dampen puja spirit in Dhemaji

By Correspondent

DHEMAJI, Oct 25 - Besides the restrictions imposed on Puja celebrations due to Covid pandemic, rainy weather has further dampened the spirit of Durga puja festivities in Dhemaji district and adjoining Siang valley of Arunachal Pradesh.

The region has witnessed moderate to heavy rains since Thursday evening, which has dampened the spirit of people who had hopes of offering prayers to Goddess Durga.

The situation this year is also adversely affecting community puja as well as the household puja celebrations.

We have decided to perform the rituals of ghot puja following vedic tradition instead of worshipping idols. Understanding the present situation and adhering to the COVID-19 protocol, we are conducting the puja with contact-less arrangement, said Jatin Baruah, general secretary of Dhemaji Town Vishnu Mandir Puja Committee.

Durga puja is being celebrated at around 30 puja mandaps throughout the district, but no rush of devotees has been seen in the mandaps.

The organizers at Dhemaji SPs office campus and many other places are celebrating the puja without idol and cultural events owing to restrictions imposed by the administration.

It may be added here that the people of the district will not witness the Kumari Puja this year.
