Cop shot dead at Aalo CJM court

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, March 3 - In a shocking incident, a police personnel on duty was allegedly shot dead on the premises of the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at Aalo in West Siang district in the wee hours today.

The on-duty Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) personnel, identified as Tapop Yajo, was shot dead by unknown assailants at around 3 am, Aalo PS officer-in-charge Yomken Riram said.

He said the incident came to light when another security personnel reached the CJM court at the break of dawn who found Yajo dead.

Police said no arrest has been made yet and a probe is on in this connection.

Meanwhile, distressed at repeated incidents of attack on the CJM court and the latest incident of killing of the security man, the West Siang District Bar Association has threatened to boycott the proceedings of all courts in West Siang district until police shows any signs of investigation in the present case of shooting as well as previous cases of arson at the court premises.

To register their protest, members of the Bar Association, along with the Galo Students Union, will take out a rally at Aalo on March 5, it said.

Relating the incident to that of the arson incidents, both the organisations demanded that the arson cases, along with the Tapop Yajo death case, be handed over to the SIT for proper investigation, while alleging that the Aalo Police have been incompetent in dealing with the cases.
