Cooperative scam accused dies in jail, probe ordered

GUWAHATI, Aug 3 - Assam Vegetables Growers Co-operative Society Limited (AVGCSL)�s chief executive officer Rahul Amin, who was arrested by the Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) for swindling over Rs 50 crore of small farmers� money on the pretext of various schemes, died in judicial custody yesterday.

The district magistrate has ordered an inquiry into the custodial death of Amin.

ADM Sadnek Singh has been asked to conduct the probe and submit the report within 15 days, along with complete medical treatment report, inquest report, CD of PM, viscera examination report, etc.

Amin, a resident of Lakhipur in Goalpara, had complained of illness after which he was shifted to the Central Jail Hospital where he died, sources said. He was arrested on July 6. The BIEO had got nine days custody of the accused after which he was lodged at the Central Jail.
